EQUINE BOWEN
Beth Darrel adapted and devised Equine Bowen after she trained as a Bowen Therapist with Julian Baker, Principle of the European College of Bowen Studies.
Treating both the horse and rider are important as any correction of a horse’s problem may not hold unless the rider is also in complete structural balance.
Horses can be injured in a number of ways – slipping on icy roads or tarmac, from poorly fitting saddles, getting cast, pulling back when tied up etc. Many older horses that have been retired due to stiffness have returned to gentle hacking following Equine Bowen Therapy.
The technique is useful for a wide range of conditions, from acute pain to chronic conditions.
Some conditions which have been found to respond well to EBT are:
Disunited gait or irregular action
Uneven wear of shoes
Muscle atrophy or uneven development
Stiffness on one rein
‘Cold back’ or back pain
Sluggish lymphatic system or weakened immune system
Uncharacteristic change of temperament or deterioration of performance
Mares being prepared for breeding and after they have foaled greatly benefit from EBT.
